Postcard Update

So I have gotten some inquiries about what grades I am including in this postcard exchange. I had originally thought that I would only include kindergarten. Then I thought kindergarten through second grade. Or what about ANY grade. No, that’s too much to handle. I realized two things.

First, why should I limit our experience to kindergarteners? We could probably learn a lot more from a variety of ages.

Second, it would probably be SUPER hard to find kindergarten teachers from all 50 states. Hard is good. Challenges are important. But come on, I’m not in this for the classroom searching challenge. I want to do this postcard exchange alongside my kinder kids this upcoming year! We (kids and I) will communicate with kids from around the US! We will write! Ha! We will learn to write! We will send mail! We will share about Texas! We will receive (REAL) mail in our mailbox! We will learn about the other 49 states in the US! We might skype! This is going to be an awesome experience! There will be many firsts for my kindergarteners. Truthfully, there will be quite a few firsts for me as well. I am SO pumped!

Okay, I have a confession. The reasons I gave above for opening the postcard exchange to multiple grades are totally true, but I also really, really just want to fill all 50 spots before school starts. 🙂

Anyway, you’re probably wondering what I decided. I think kindergarten through fourth grade would work out nicely. K-4. Final decision. I think.

Postcard Exchange

Have you ever heard of a postcard exchange? I have heard of such an idea, but have yet to participate. I found two exchanges on some awesome teacher websites, Primary Graffiti and Barrow’s Hodgepodge, but Texas was already taken. So I would like to start my own exchange. From what I understand, a postcard exchange is where 50 teachers (one from each state) have their students write and mail the postcards out to the other participating classes. You will need to purchase at least 49 postcards and stamps. I would like to open the exchange to all kindergarten teachers who have a blog, website or any other means to share postcard exchange updates, pictures, etc… I would like for all participants to be able to share in some form and a blog is super easy, but the more I think about it, the more I am open to accepting other kinder teachers without a blog or public site! The exchange will be open on a first come, first serve basis. All participants should mail out their postcards by the end of October. The deadline is set to allow time for correspondence between participants throughout the upcoming school year. Look HERE to see if your state is available. I would like for all participants to include an introduction to their classroom and a fact about their state. Please also include a line “want to learn more about ____________, just contact us at ___________.” If you would like to join the exchange, email me at alexisadidier@gmail.com. Please include your name, school, state, and blog. I will then send you a conformation email. If a reply isn’t made within several days, I will select the next person available. I am SO excited!!
